FAQs
Philosophy
WHAT SETS FUSSIE CAT APART FROM OTHER PET FOODS?
Unlike many commercially available pet foods which contain large amounts of simple carbohydrates as their first or second ingredient, Fussie Cat recipes are based on our Meat First philosophy. Meat or fish is always the main ingredient. As cats are obligate carnivores, nothing but a Meat First recipe will provide complete, Physiologically Tuned™ nutrition for your pet.
WHY IS REAL MEAT AS THE FIRST INGREDIENT SO IMPORTANT?
All Fussie Cat recipes are based on our Meat First™ philosophy because cats are obligate carnivores. They require high amounts of protein to thrive, and lack the digestive enzymes to properly break down and combine incomplete plant proteins. This means they must have high-quality animal protein for optimal health.
Good to Know
SHOULD FUSSIE CAT CANNED FOODS BE REFRIGERATED AFTER OPENING?
Yes. Any unused portion must be refrigerated in a sealed container. Consider a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. In addition, we recommend using each meal completely within four days of opening it.
HOW DO I READ THE DATES ON CANS OF FUSSIE CAT?
To help ensure you’re getting the freshest food for your cat, we provide both a “Production Date” and an “Expiration Date” on our packaging, located on the bottom of the can. It will read: “PRO MM/DD/YYYY, and EXP MM/DD/YYYY.” Never feed our pet food or any other brand to your cat past the expiration date.
WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF FUSSIE CAT FOOD?
Our wet can recipes are hermetically sealed in our kitchen to give them a shelf life of three years.
Our dry food recipes have a 18 month shelf life.
Just a friendly reminder! Before feeding our delicious meals to your pet, take a moment to check the expiration date on the bottom of the can or on the back of your kibble bag.
FUSSIE CAT MAY BE HEALTHY, BUT WILL MY CAT LIKE IT?
The healthiest recipe in the world is useless if your cat won’t eat it. Conversely, the most delicious recipe falls short if it doesn’t provide the nutrition your cat’s biology demands. That’s why our recipes are all “Co-Created by Cats.™” We start with the Meat First™ ingredients your cat needs to thrive, then we taste test our meals with actual pets to create meals that are as delicious as they are nutritious.
ARE FUSSIE CAT PRODUCTS AVAILABLE ONLINE?
Yes, you can get all of our recipes online at chewy.com. For a complete list of stores in your neighborhood, click here.
Do's and Dont's
SHOULD I FEED MILK TO MY KITTEN?SHOULD FUSSIE CAT CANNED FOODS BE REFRIGERATED AFTER OPENING?
As a general rule, milk should only be given as a treat, if it’s well tolerated by your pet. Milk is a food and not a substitute for water. Therefore, always have fresh, clean water available for your pets. As a food, milk is incomplete and does not provide balanced nutrition for your cat. Large amounts of milk may not be well tolerated, as milk contains lactose, and high levels of lactose can cause diarrhea in some pets.
CAN I FEED MY CAT DOG FOOD, OR VICE VERSA?
No. Despite what you may have heard, cats and dogs have unique nutritional needs and should be fed meals designed specifically for their needs. Health problems may occur from not feeding your pet a complete and balanced, species appropriate diet. Check the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) statement here, or on the product packaging to determine if that recipe is appropriate for your pet’s nutritional requirements.
IS FUSSIE CAT EASY TO ROTATE BETWEEN FLAVORS WITH MY SENSITIVE FELINE?
Because Fussie Cat® products are formulated to have similar nutrient profiles it is a great rotational diet. If your cat is sensitive to a certain recipe we recommend that you try another.
HOW DO I KNOW FUSSIE CAT PROVIDES MY PET WITH QUALITY NUTRITION?
All Fussie Cat foods are made in an FDA-approved kitchen that also produces human-grade foods. We regularly inspect everything from the manufacturing process to the raw ingredients that go in our foods so you can rest assured your cat’s meals are prepared under the strictest guidelines for quality control that meets international standards.
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY CATS ARE TRUE CARNIVORES?
Known as obligate carnivores, the physiology of all cats has evolved to process meat, and about 20% of a cat’s diet should be protein.
DO YOU PERFORM ANY INVASIVE ANIMAL TESTING IN DEVELOPING YOUR PRODUCTS?
No, and we never will. Our company was founded on the basis of providing delicious, nutritionally correct, value conscious meals for your cat. To fine-tune our recipes, we conduct trials where our food is fed to pets. This is done in a comfortable, stress-free environment for the animals.
